Data Science and Machine-Learning Expert

Job type: Full-time

We are looking for an expert in data science to help us extract value from legal case data. We identify features of interest in legal opinions and use the data to predict the outcomes of future cases. You will be a full-stack contributor, involved in all aspects of the data science processes running from data collection, assembly of datasets, cleaning and pre-processing data, through to developing machine-learning algorithms, training models, and deploying them to production.

The ideal candidate is passionate about data science and machine-learning and stays current with the latest developments in these fields. The successful candidate will also have had prior experience developing models tailored to the specific type of data being analyzed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understanding business objectives and developing datasets and models that help to achieve them, along with establishing metrics to track their progress;
  • Significant and varied practical experience of using data science, ideally covering the range of machine-learning methods used in the commercial sector;
  • An excellent ability to shape analytical projects, including learning new analytical techniques as needed;
  • Extracting and collecting relevant data from written legal opinions;
  • Verifying data quality and integrity, and/or ensuring it via data cleaning;

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable, relevant industry experience and a proven track record of ensuring high standards and project delivery;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and polished presentation skills;
  • Proficiency with a deep learning framework such as TensorFlow or Keras;
  • Proficiency with Python and basic libraries for machine-learning such as scikit-learn and pandas;
  • Expertise in visualizing and manipulating big datasets;
  • Familiarity with Linux;
  • Proficiency with R;
  • Ability to select hardware to run an ML model with the required latency;
  • Experience designing and deploying models into production grade, highly available environments;
  • Examples of highly-regarded prior work.

Required Education:

The position is primarily responsible for prospecting, booking appointments and creating Sales Qualified Opportunities. Reporting to the VP Sales and Marketing, the BDR will work with specific goals and responsibilities. The role allows for career growth and advancement into other sales roles within the organization.
